And what a fucking nightmare it has been! Between insane shipping quotes, threats and spam from brokers, the first shipper ghosting, the second shipper blowing a tire that delayed him for almost a week, and then the terminal claiming they’d never heard from me.... it has been a hell of an adventure already!
So this morning I get a call from the friend who is essentially acting as the broker for this deal, saying that the cars are at the terminal but the terminal won’t receive
them. I needed to call right away and talk to [Person A].
“ WTF?!” I think, “I’ve BEEN talking to [Person A]!!”
So I call and ask for [Person A]
“I’m sorry [Person A] is up front dealing with a shipper and can’t talk.” Says [Person B].
“I know, that is what I’m calling about!” I say in my friendliest, totally not shitting myself voice.
Long story short (too late) apparently despite emailing with [Person A] for two weeks, [Person A] thought I was talking about a hypothetical shipment rather than an actual one! I guess not knowing what one of the cars was meant I wasn’t ready to ship... or something.
That cleared up, they received the cars and we won’t have to pay storage!
I am excite!
Taylor and the Mystery Machine are chilling in Provo still as Taylor has to work a full day today before he pushes on to Boise .
So far all he has said is that driving the Mystery Machine is tiring and it doesn’t get very good gas mileage at high speed, but otherwise is doing well. I have my guesses, but I’ll save the speculation for another day.
EXCITE!

That lede
pic is giving me PTSD flashbacks to the days I was on call for a trucking company.
Thank god I don't do that shit anymore.

In the ~250 miles between Baton Rouge and Houston, I will see the remains of at least six tires every trip. Most are big rigs, but there are the occasional small trailer, RV, and car tires. Of course, the offending vehicle is usually just 1/4 mile up the interstate and the traffic jam leading up to them is usually two or three miles long. Nobody wants to run over a retread and rightfully so.

Our terminal was in Baton Rouge. We had to cover everything from Hammond to
halfway to Lafayette, and from halfway to New Orleans to the Mississippi state line.
My “favorite” was when a truck would break down on the
I-10 bridge complex
in the Atchafalaya. Super fun.

We warned my in-laws about that bridge when they were coming to visit us from Texas. So far , they’ve been stuck on it twice while something gets sorted. The first time they were running low on gas and my mother-in-law needed to pee. They were stuck for over two hours.
Interesting side note - more bodies are dumped off that bridge than anywhere else in the state. It happens so often that now i t’s regularly patrolled by boat just to look for bodies.

Oof. That sucks. The worst part is there’s literally nowhere to go unless you think you can outswim the gators.
Which fact makes me not surprised at all to hear it’s the most popular body disposal spot in the state. Probably followed shortly by Pont
chartrain. Thank god I never had anything break down on THAT thing.

I’ve lived in the state for over 12 years and we still haven’t crossed that bridge!

It's highly overrated.
